We Benchmarked 7 Vape Mods Like They Were Gaming Laptops

Every gaming laptop review worth reading runs the same gauntlet: battery benchmarks, thermal throttling tests, display measurements, and a verdict on whether you're paying for performance or paying for the logo. We decided vape mods deserve the same treatment. So we put seven popular devices on the bench and scored them like a rig review.
The Methodology (Yes, There's a Methodology)
Each mod was scored 0–10 in five categories, weighted like a PC review: Battery Life Under Load (25%), Ramp-Up Time (20%), Thermal Management (20%), Display & UI (15%), and Value-per-Watt (20%). Same battery type where possible, same coil family, same e-liquid, same chain-vaping test protocol that our editor describes as 'thorough' and our intern describes as 'a lot.'
The Scorecard
| Mod | Battery | Ramp-Up | Thermal | Display | Value | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Geekvape Aegis Legend 3 | 9 | 8 | 9 | 7 | 8 | 8.4 |
| Vaporesso XROS Pro | 8 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 9 | 7.8 |
| Voopoo Drag 5 | 8 | 9 | 7 | 8 | 7 | 7.8 |
| Smok G-Priv 5 | 7 | 8 | 6 | 9 | 6 | 7.1 |
| Lost Vape Centaurus Q200 | 8 | 8 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 7.5 |
| Vandy Vape Jackaroo | 7 | 7 | 8 | 5 | 8 | 7.0 |
| Freemax Marvos 100W | 6 | 7 | 7 | 6 | 7 | 6.5 |
Note: Scores reflect our test units and subjective panel ratings. Your mileage, as always, may vary.
Category Winners
Best battery under load: The Aegis Legend 3 with dual 18650s just refuses to sag. It posted the most consistent wattage delivery deep into the battery curve — the vape equivalent of a laptop that doesn't throttle when unplugged.
Fastest ramp-up: The Drag 5 hit target wattage with a snappiness that reviewers of input latency would describe as 'competitive-grade.' First puff of the session felt identical to the fiftieth.
Coolest under pressure: The Jackaroo's chassis doubles as a heatsink. Chain-fire tests left it warm, never hot — it's the passive-cooled mini-ITX build of the mod world.
Best display: The G-Priv 5's big touchscreen is gorgeous, though we docked points because touchscreens and pocket lint are natural enemies.
The Verdicts
Editor's Choice: Geekvape Aegis Legend 3. It's the thinkpad of mods — not flashy, nearly indestructible, and consistently excellent across every category.
Best Budget Pick: Vaporesso XROS Pro. At its price point, a 7.8 feels like theft. If you're building your first serious setup, start here and spend the savings on good e-liquid.
Style Over Substance Award: Smok G-Priv 5. Stunning screen, solid performance, but you're paying a premium for pixels. If display quality is your kink, no judgment — just know what you're buying.
Benchmarks won't replace your taste, but they'll make sure the mod in your hand earns its desk space. Test your gear, trust your data, and vape like someone who reads the spec sheet.
